Job Description: Physical Education Teacher

PGIS is seeking a motivated and student-centred Physical Education Teacher to plan and deliver engaging PE lessons for students across different age groups and ability levels.

The successful candidate must be able to teach both swimming and football (soccer), developing students' physical skills, sporting confidence and understanding of safe, healthy participation in physical activity.

This position is open to both native and non-native English-speaking candidates who meet the role's requirements and demonstrate strong English proficiency, with a minimum TOEIC score of 800.

The role involves delivering curriculum-based PE lessons, teaching swimming skills and water safety, providing football instruction, and contributing to school sports events and extracurricular activities.

Key Responsibilities

Physical Education Teaching

• Plan and deliver structured, age-appropriate physical education lessons.

• Develop students' fundamental movement skills, coordination, balance, strength, endurance and overall physical fitness.

• Adapt activities to different ages, abilities, learning needs and levels of sporting experience.

• Promote teamwork, sportsmanship, resilience, self-discipline and respect.

• Monitor student progress and provide constructive feedback.

 

Swimming Instruction

• Teach swimming to students with different levels of experience, from beginners developing water confidence to students refining their swimming technique.

• Teach appropriate swimming skills, including freestyle, breaststroke, backstroke and butterfly.

• Develop students' water safety awareness, pool discipline and confidence in the water.

• Maintain active supervision and follow school swimming pool safety procedures and risk assessments.

• Identify potential hazards and ensure activities are appropriate to students' abilities and swimming proficiency.

 

Football Coaching

• Teach football fundamentals, including ball control, dribbling, passing, shooting and defending.

• Develop students' understanding of teamwork, positioning, basic tactics and match play.

• Plan progressive football drills, small-sided games and age-appropriate activities.

• Encourage participation, fair play, cooperation and positive sporting behaviour.

• Support school football activities, sports events and extracurricular programmes as required.

 

Wider School Responsibilities

• Contribute to school sports days, swimming activities and extracurricular sports clubs.

• Work collaboratively with teachers and school leadership.

• Maintain appropriate records of student participation, progress and relevant incidents.

• Follow school safeguarding, behaviour, health and safety policies.

• Communicate professionally with colleagues and parents when appropriate.

 

Essential Qualifications and Requirements

• A relevant qualification in Physical Education, Sports Science, Sports Coaching or a related discipline.

• Experience teaching or coaching children and young people.

• Demonstrable ability to teach both swimming and football (soccer).

• The ability to plan progressive swimming lessons and teach appropriate swimming techniques while maintaining high standards of water safety.

• The ability to deliver structured football coaching appropriate to students' ages and abilities.

• Strong classroom and group management skills, including the ability to maintain safe boundaries during practical lessons.
